Lagos Building Collapse: Hundreds Of Children Trapped As Three Storey Building Collapses In Lagos

Earlier today, a three-storey residential building collapsed in a densely-populated part of Lagos, and local media said there could be many casualties, including schoolchildren.

A primary school was located on the top floor of the building, "with pupils feared killed and others trapped."

The collapse occurred in the Itafaji area of Lagos Island.

The scene is besieged with wailing parents calling out the names of their children.

Rescue operations spearheaded by men of the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) are still ongoing while the police and other security operatives are monitoring the security situation at the scene.

As at the time of this report, nineteen persons including seven school pupils and twelve adults have been rescued from the building.

  1. This is just sad. I heard last year this building was marked to be demolished. This can only happen in Nigeria.
